Altostratus 03
The L&G Altostratus 03 came from Dylan Davis and Jean Lee thinking about how to make a statement pendant that works in those awkward tall spaces - stairwells, entryways, double-height lobbies - where most fixtures either get lost or look ridiculous. They built a natural ash wood frame that extends vertically with fabric draped between the structure, creating this soft lantern effect that diffuses light instead of just blasting it downward. The textile options give you different looks: Asami for clean minimalism, Twinx for texture, or Crushed Silk if you want that 45-inch fabric drop with more drama. Brass hardware and canopy keep everything refined, and the whole thing hangs on bronze suspension cables with an 8-foot standard drop that's adjustable on-site. At 57 inches tall and about 27 inches wide, it fills vertical space without overwhelming it.
What makes this work in tall installations is how the diffused glow creates ambient light that reaches multiple levels instead of just illuminating one spot. The E26/E27 socket comes with an A15 bulb included (12 watts, 2700K, 1200 lumens), giving you that soft warm light that doesn't feel harsh in open spaces. The fixture's UL certified and line voltage compatible, working with ELV or 0-10V dimming so you can adjust brightness throughout the day - brighter when you need to see the stairs clearly, dimmed down for evening ambiance. The natural ash frame adds warmth against white walls or concrete, and at 7 pounds it's substantial enough to feel quality without requiring crazy structural support. Installation needs one powered junction box plus three additional non-powered suspension points, so you're mounting it securely at four corners rather than hanging everything from one central point.
Ladies & Gentlemen Studio's been operating between Brooklyn and Seattle since Davis and Lee founded it in 2010 after meeting in industrial design school at University of Washington. Their approach blends what they call "warm minimalism" with "playful austerity" - furniture and lighting that feels approachable without being basic. They've collaborated with Roll & Hill, MUJI, and The Future Perfect, building a reputation for fixtures that balance sculptural presence with actual functionality. The Altostratus collection fits their philosophy of finding unexpected material pairings - combining natural wood, industrial cable suspension, and soft textile diffusers into lighting that works as both illumination and spatial sculpture. Made in their Brooklyn studio with attention to craft-level details and customization options for textiles and frame sizing.
